National Accreditation Programs
About the Exercise Programs & Course Eligibility

Developed by Exercise Medicine Australia on the basis of exercise science and research evidence, the following national exercise accreditation programs are designed for exercise instructors, fitness trainers, physiotherapists and other health professionals, community health workers and volunteers at all levels to learn, practice and be able to deliver the exercise programs for primary prevention and population health at the community level and appropriate heath care settings. The 2-day step-by-step teaching and practice courses enable participants to expand training skills and further professional development. Beginners and the general public are welcome to attend.
[Course 1] Tai Chi for Health & Falls Prevention

-  Standing movements for exercisers with normal mobility
Fitness Australia National Accreditation Program    (15 CECs)

Falls prevention is identified a national health priority area in Australia.  The Tai Chi for Health and Falls Prevention program, developed by Exercise Medicine Australia and Professor Ehrlich at the Faculty of Medicine, the University of New South Wales, is a targeted and evidence-based exercise intervention program for improving public health and preventing falls. It is designed to effectively tackle the major physical and psychological risk factors of falls by improving proprioception  and motor control skills; increasing muscle contractile efficiency and muscle force output;  improving dynamic postural stability, toe clearance and reaction time; maintaining bone density, building confidence and overcoming fear of falling. The program is suitable for exercisers with normal mobility and balance skills.

[Course 2] Tai Chi for Health & Falls Prevention

-  Chair-based and foundation movements for special population groups with limited mobility and balance

This chair-based Tai Chi for Health & Falls Prevention program is designed for special population groups at greater risk of falls due to their limited mobility and balance.  By using chairs as an exercise aid, it enables exercisers to practice this special Tai Chi  intervention program in a safe way. The special intervention program incorporates the key techniques of Tai Chi designed to overcome muscle weakness, poor balance, mobility and limited motion range; improve proprioception, dynamic postural stability, toe clearance and reaction time; boost confidence and overcome the fear of falling.

[Course 3] Qigong for Health & Fitness

Fitness Australia National Accreditation Program  (15 CECs)

The therapeutic benefits of Qigong exercise have been known for centuries. Integrating modern exercise science and the ancient healing art, the Qigong for Health and Fitness program is designed to improve the energy system, stimulate energy flow, balance and improve energy level. It aims to enhance oxidation and improve metabolism, thereby reducing the risk of metabolic syndromes such as coronary heart disease, diabetes and obesity. This special Qigong program is also designed to increase muscle strength; prevent bone demineralization, thereby reducing the risk of osteoporosis; improve mobility, flexibility, coordination and balance; and manage stress and achieve mental and physical relaxation.

[Course 4] Tai Chi for a Healthy Heart

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounts for nearly one third of global deaths. In Australia, heart, stroke and vascular diseases kill more Australians than any other disease groups. The Tai Chi for a Healthy Heart program offers a targeted and evidence-based exercise intervention modality aimed at reducing the risk of and preventing CVD.

The key techniques of the Tai Chi intervention program are designed to improve cardiovascular fitness and myocardial contraction; increase stroke volume and cardiac output at rest and during exercise; increase insulin sensitivity; stimulate lipid oxidation; improve cholesterol profile and normalize blood pressure.  The mental and physical relaxation effect of the exercise program works to minimize the risk of stress-induced inflammation within the artery wall.

[Course 5] Tai Chi for Mental Health & Cognitive Improvement

Mental health and cognitive impairment are identified as national health priority areas. Chronic and acute stress and physical inactivity are among the major modifiable risk factors. Tai Chi for Mental Health and Cognitive Improvement is developed as a cognitive exercise intervention program to counteract the risk factors, prevent and manage mental health disorders and cognitive impairment. The specially designed neuromotor task training techniques and Tai Chi cognitive and relaxation techniques aim to improve cognitive functions, manage stress, anxiety and depression and ultimately help to achieve mental health and wellbeing.

[Course 6] Tai Chi Fan for Health & Wellbeing

This special exercise program transforms Tai Chi into an art of exercise for health and wellbeing. It contains 18 unique movements designed to increase muscle strength, mobility, flexibility and balance; maintain bone density, and improve the functional capacity of the body system. It relaxes the body, refreshes the mind and reinvigorates the spirit. It offers a holistic approach to health and well-being.
