About the Exercise Programs & Course Eligibility
The following national exercise accreditation programs are designed to provide exercise instructors, physiotherapists and other health professionals, community health workers and volunteers with the opportunity to learn, practice and be able to deliver the evidence-based, safe and targeted Tai Chi and Qigong intervention programs for primary prevention and rehabilitation in the community, residential or hospital setting. The step-by-step teaching and practice courses enable course participants to expand health and training skills and further professional development. The courses are suitable for exercise instructors and health professionals at all levels involved in exercise intervention for disease prevention and management. The general public are welcome to attend for improving personal health and wellbeing.

[Course 1] The Tai Chi for Health and Falls Prevention Program
Stay on Your Feet with the National Falls Prevention Program - Australian Physiotherapy Association National Accreditation Program (17 CPDs) Fitness Australia National Accreditation Program (15 CECs)
Falls prevention is identified as a national health priority in Australia. The Tai Chi for Health and Falls Prevention Program is an evidence-based, safe and targeted Tai Chi intervention program designed to effectively tackle the major physical and psychological risk factors of falls and prevent falls.
The Tai Chi for Health and Falls Prevention Program is an Australian Physiotherapy Association and Fitness Australia national accreditation program for physiotherapists, exercise instructors and other health professionals involved in physical activity intervention for falls prevention and population health. [Course 2] The Tai Chi for Health & Falls Prevention Program
- Chair-based and foundation movements for special population groups with limited mobility and balance
This chair-based Tai Chi for Health & Falls Prevention Program is designed for special population groups at greater risk of falls due to their neuron-motor control impairment. It enables exercisers to practice the tailored and targeted Tai Chi intervention program safely. The special intervention program incorporates key mobility and postural control techniques of Tai Chi designed to overcome muscle weakness in lower limbs, poor balance, mobility and flexibilty; improve proprioception, dynamic balance and postural control, toe clearance and reaction time; boost confidence and overcome the fear of falling. |

[Course 3] The Qigong for Health and Fitness Program
Fitness Australia National Accreditation Program (15 CECs)
The therapeutic benefits of Qigong exercise have been known for centuries. Integrating modern exercise science and the ancient healing art, the Qigong for Health and Fitness program is designed to improve the energy system, stimulate energy flow, balance and improve energy level. It aims to enhance oxidation and improve metabolism, thereby reducing the risk of metabolic syndromes such as coronary heart disease, diabetes and obesity. This special Qigong program is also designed to increase muscle strength; prevent bone demineralization, thereby reducing the risk of osteoporosis; improve mobility, flexibility, coordination and balance; and manage stress and achieve mental and physical relaxation. |

Cardiovascular and respiratory diseases are the leading cause of disease burden in Australia and around the world. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) alone accounts for nearly one third of global deaths. In Australia, heart, stroke and vascular diseases kill more Australians than any other disease groups.

Lung disease poses a significant and growing health challenge in Australia with 2.6 million cases of lung disease reported in 2007-2008.
The Tai Chi for Cardiopulmonary Health Program is an evidence-based, safe, targeted and innovative Tai Chi intervention program designed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory disease, improve cardiopulmonary health and the quality of life for cardiovascular and respiratory patients. | |

[Course 5] The Tai Chi for Mental Health & Cognitive Improvement Program
Fitness Australia National Accreditation Program 15 CECs
Mental health and cognitive impairment are identified as national health priority areas. Chronic and acute stress and physical inactivity are among the major modifiable risk factors. The Tai Chi for Mental Health and Cognitive Improvement Program is developed as a evidence-based, safe and targeted cognitive exercise intervention program to counteract the risk factors, prevent and manage mental health disorders and cognitive impairment. The specially designed neuron-motor task training techniques and Tai Chi cognitive and relaxation techniques aimto improve cognitive functions; manage stress, anxiety and depression; achieve mental health and wellbeing; and prevent and manage dementia.
