The Tai Chi For
A Healthy Heart Program
A specially designed and targeted exercise intervention
program for preventing cardiovascular diseases
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounts for nearly a third of
global deaths. In Australia, heart, stroke and vascular diseases kill
more Australians than any other disease groups. In 2002 alone, as many
as 50,294 Australians died from CVD. There is overwhelming scientific
evidence to suggest that sedentary lifestyle and physical inactivity is
a major risk factor. It has been well documented that regular
physical exercise can significantly reduce the risk of CVD. As a safe,
effective, low impact and moderate aerobic exercise modality, the Tai
Chi For A Healthy Heart Program, newly developed by Exercise Medicine
Australia in collaboration with medical researchers from UNSW , offers a
targeted exercise
intervention strategy to reduce the risk of and prevent CVD.
