The Tai Chi for Mental Health and Cognitive Improvement Program
Fitness Australia National Accreditation Porgram 15 CECs

Mental health disorder and dementia have been identified as national health priorities.

Statistics show that 1 in 5 Australians aged between 16 and 85 years experienced one or more of common mental disorders such as depression or anxiety in the past 12 months, and about 45% of respondents experienced a mental disorder in their lifetime.

As the national ageing population expands rapidly, dementia is becoming a fastest growing source of major disease burden and the leading single cause of disability.

The Tai Chi for Mental Health and Cognitive Improvement Program is a national accreditation program for exercise instructors and health professionals involved in prevention and management of mental health disorders and dementia.

The Tai Chi for Mental Health and Cognitive Improvement Program is an evidence-based, safe and targeted Tai Chi intervention program designed to effectively achieve mental and physical relaxation; reduce stress, anxiety and depression; facilitate motor skills motor sequence learning and executive control through its specially designed motor task training techniques; prevent functional decline; and reduce disability and behavioural and psychological symptoms.
