Course Introduction

The therapeutic benefits of Qigong have been known for centuries. The ancient healing art is supported with mounting research evidence on its efficacy in improving health, well-being and the quality of life.  Over 15 randomized control trials conducted around the world demonstrated that practice of Qigong significantly reduced stress and anxiety, and improved musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary and immune health, physical function, self-efficacy and quality of life.

Based on research evidence and guided by exercise prescription principles and safety guidelines, ©the Qigong for Health and Fitness Program is designed to improve musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary and immune health, increase fitness level and improve the quality of life. It consists of eight forms with symmetrical movements designed to stimulate energy flow, raise energy level and achieve energy balance.

Alice L Yuan

Alice L Yuan is an exercise specialist and leading international authority in evidence-based Tai Chi, Qigong and Mulan exercise programs for prevention and rehabilitation of chronic conditions and fall, and improvement of mental health, cognition, functional abilities and quality of life. Alice has conducted accreditation courses in evidence-based Tai Chi, Qigong and Mulan exercise programs for health and exercise professionals in Australia and internationally for over 20 years

Alice is also the director of International Tai Chi, Qigong and Mulan Health Institute. She is a past gold medallist in national and international competitions and frequently invited to judge at national and international Tai Chi, Qigong and Mulan competitions.

 

Dr Henry Zheng

Dr Henry Zheng is a professor in exercise intervention for primary prevention and rehabilitation. He received a doctoral degree from the Faculty of Medicine, the University of New South Wales, Australia. His doctoral research focused on quantification of the effect size and dose-response of physical activity interventions in reducing the risk of and preventing coronary heart disease.

Dr Henry Zheng’s research interests span exercise interventions for prevention and rehabilitation of chronic conditions and falls, improvement of mental health and cognition, and promotion of active and healthy ageing. His research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals including the European Journal of Epidemiology, the British Medical Journal, the American Journal of Infection Control, the Journal of International Body Composition Research, the Journal of International Institute on Ageing (BOLD), United Nations, and Wound Practice and Research.
