Mulan Quan is named after Hua Mulan, a legendary warrior heroine in ancient China. Legend has that the young warrior heroine lived during the Northern and Southern dynasties, which was between 420 and 589 CE. To save her ailing father from mandatory military conscription, the brave young woman disguised herself as a man to take her father’s place and battled fearlessly in the war against northern invaders. When the war ended, she was honoured by the emperor who offered to let her join his personal guard. She declined the offer and returned to her village and reunited with her ailing father instead.
Inspired by the legend, Walt Disney Pictures spent $70 million on the production of a 2020 American action drama film – Mulan and $60 million in 1998 on a cartoon movie – Mulan for the Disneyland.
